There are two types of editors that you can use for composing messages:
You can use the Plain Text Editor to send messages consisting of plain text. The plain text editor does not provide an option for formatting text. The outgoing messages use the default format available for this editor.
This form of editor allows you to customize your message by formatting the message text that you enter in the message text area. You can use these additional options to format the outgoing text message composed with HTML or Rich Text Editor.
Asian characters may appear as boxes when you select the Text editor to compose a message, and you select a font other than the system default. This is not an issue with the HTML editor.
Text editors and Web browsers must be able to choose a font they can render. The default behavior of a font rendering mechanism is to use the box glyph when the character to render is not found in the font set in use.
If you select a particular font, be sure you know about the character set and its encoding issues, or at the minimum, know if the font is capable of rendering the character set that needs to be rendered.
For example, Asian characters in an email created using the Text editor with a UTF-8 character set might appear as boxes in the outbound message. To eliminate this problem with the characters, set your font preference to the system default. If the system default is Times, then you need to select Times.
